A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
A testament to the founders and first members who believed in constant growth and adaptation, the Parsons Green Club renovation projects have grown and expanded this historic club.
The renovation created a more open and inviting space, with new interiors and upgraded facilities. Every aspect of the club was carefully considered to enhance the experience for all club members.

The renovation did not only focus on breaking down walls and creating a more open and inviting space but also on enhancing the overall aesthetics of the club. From new interiors to upgraded facilities, every aspect of the club was carefully considered to ensure a remarkable experience for all club members.
But it’s not just about the physical transformation: The heart and spirit of the social club remained intact, keeping the historical integrity of traditional elements and branding existing at the club.

A brief history
Back in 1883, a remarkable woman named Miss Charlotte Sulivan had a vision. She wanted to create a haven for hardworking men, a place that would offer an alternative to the local pubs. Thus, the Ray of Hope Coffee House was born. Little did she know that this humble establishment would evolve into the Parsons Green Working Men’s Social Club, complete with cosy reading rooms and game spaces by 1885. As time went on, the Club expanded its offerings.
In 1886, a cricket club was established, providing entertainment during the summer months. Miss Sulivan even granted the Club a lease on a nearby field, which is now the grounds of Sulivan School. Unfortunately, the Club faced its share of challenges. During the devastating blitz of 1940-1941, a bomb struck the bowling green, causing damage to the ladies’ pavilion. However, the Club persevered and continued to serve its members.
Fast forward to 2019, and the Social Club has undergone significant transformations. After a major redevelopment, a brand new facility emerged, ready to welcome members with open arms. The rich history of the Parsons Green Working Men’s Social Club stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and dedication of its founders and members.
